The sugar fasting diet is the most powerful weight loss diet when properly implemented. While every person is different genetically, health-wise, physical shape every one will achieve different success levels. The reason this diet works is that it incorporates several different metabolic principles that when combined provide the best opportunity to lose weight. High sucrose will stimulate FGF21 which is one of the body’s strongest “hormones” in helping the body to lose weight. FGF21 lowers blood glucose, modulates and balances lipids, increases the expenditure of energy, changes food cravings and stimulates neurogenic pathways that are considered to be anti-aging. Protein restriction stimulates FGF21 but also is found to turn white adipose tissue into beige and stimulates Brown Adipose Tissue. This causes the body to turn on non shivering thermogenesis which might be the body’s most powerful weight loss tool and most likely is one of the major contributing factors to the sugar fasting diet. I eat salsa, bell peppers and sofrita to further enhance and activate the already turned on BAT and beige adipose tissue. The diets main staple is fruits, fruit juices and dried fruits all which are high in Fructose. Studies show fructose is the main driver of immediate stimulation of FGF21 while glucose contributes a smaller portion. Fructose helps to reshape the gut microbiome to more friendly and beneficial bacteria that procure short chain fatty acids like butyrate and acetate that provide energy and are antibacterial against bad bacteria and fungi. High Fructose Corn Syrup that is void of all the matrix of nutrients seen in fructose within fruits is not the same and shows different metabolic consequences. Fruits come with a number of other beneficial nutrients that compound the metabolic benefits of the sugar fasting diet. One is lycopene that is found in many fruits like guava, tomatoes, watermelon and more. However, to get the highest lycopene return, tomato juice, tomato soup, tomato sauce might be great options. Lycopene by itself will stimulate FGF21 which provides a better boost to the sugar fasting diet. Lycopene is currently being tested by drug companies trying to develop a version of Lycopene that can be used as an anti diabetic medication, obesity drug, anti-aging drug, cardiovascular drug, skin medication, kidney medication and cancer prevention.
