A common question I get is, "How do I get off GLP-1 medication when I've reached my goal weight"? A more important first question would be, "Have I changed my lifestyle habits in order not to regain weight once I stop the medication"? If you didn't make any significant changes in eating habits or exercise or your thinking, then this weight will come back, if you just depended on medication. I'll assume you changed your lifestyle. We take people down slowly from their current dose of Semaglutide or Terzepatide just as we slowly increased the dose to find their correct dose. If they are backing off by 4 or 5 units weekly from Semaglutide and suddenly notice an increase in hunger, I have them go back up a bit and stay there for a few weeks and then go back down. Nearly all of our successful weight loss patients have gotten off of the GLP-1 meds, knowing that if they start to regain, they can go back on the medication at a starting dose. I have some who have struggled for so long that they and I agree to keep them on a lower dose of GLP-1 medication indefinitely. It is designed for long term use both in Type II Diabetes and Obesity. No gate keeping! I hate that. I’m so sick of information being behind a paywall. I’m not a doctor and I’m not giving you advice, but here’s what I’m doing as a 44 year old woman, in perimenopause with a 7.5 month old baby and four other kids in school to finally lose weight and it’s working. Hopefully these tips help you too. They’re pretty standard and common sense. Follow along with my journey if you want. You’re all welcome unless you’re rude in which case go away. 1. I’ve upped my protein drastically, but still watch my calories so I’m in a deficit. I’ve been getting between 100-120 grams per day. It’s not that hard to do or overly expensive if you think it through. For my size I’m trying to keep under 1600 calories per day. 2. Cut out sugar completely. Use crutches for a while as in if I need something sweet, I utilize sugar free substitutes as needed. I hate this, but I’ve gotta make changes where I can. Eventually I hope to get away from that too. 3. Move more than I have been. I like to watch my calories with this too. 4. I’m using MyFitnessPal and also MapMyWalk. They’re alright. MMW, could be more accurate and not so glitchy in my opinion. 5. Compete with yourself. Not anyone else. You just have to be better than you were yesterday. Thanks for watching and reading this.
